Personally, I think that people ages 11 and up can watch Sweeney Todd. The movie was amazing, the songs and the storyline were too. The acting is awesome, too. The movie does include tons of blood, but it isn't very realistic.

It has mild language Saying 2 curse words , but does have dark themes such as cannibalism and Sweeney singing about how " As the movie is based around a murderous barber, it does have violence As mentioned before , but only done with a shaving tool. It does show a man being beaten with a cane and, of course, Sweeney murdering several people. There's lots of blood and gore, but you can just look away. It's actually quite sad at the end. I'm not going to say much about movie details because I don't want to give spoilers, but here's some of the stuff about the movie for older kids. There's the blood, Todd killing people and the twisted Mrs Lovett baking them.

A boy is abused by his boss and there's some talk of drinking, but it's not really anything to worry about. There's quite a few swear words, but no F words as the original review said.

Goofs During an arrest scene one of the characters says to the suspect: "You have the right to remain silent Anthony discovers Johanna's whereabouts and, following Todd's suggestion, poses as a wigmaker's apprentice to rescue her.

Todd has Toby deliver a letter to Turpin, telling him where Johanna will be brought when Anthony frees her. Toby has become wary of Todd and tells Mrs. Lovett of his suspicions, vowing to protect her. Bamford arrives at the pie shop, informing Mrs. Lovett that neighbors have been complaining of the stink from her chimney. Todd distracts him with an offer of a free grooming and murders him.

Lovett informs Todd of Toby's suspicions, and the pair search for the boy, who is now hiding in the sewers after finding human remains in Mrs Lovett's bakehouse. Meanwhile, Anthony brings Johanna, disguised as a sailor, to the shop, and has her wait there while he leaves to find a coach. A beggar woman enters the shop in search of Bamford, and Johanna hides in the trunk. The woman recognizes Todd, but upon hearing Turpin coming, Todd kills her and sends her through the trapdoor in the floor.

As Turpin enters, Todd explains that Johanna had repented and is coming to him, then offers a free shave in the meantime. When Turpin finally recognizes Todd as Benjamin Barker, Todd stabs him several times, cuts open his throat, and dumps him into the bakehouse.

Johanna comes out of her hiding place, still in disguise, and Todd prepares to kill her as well, not recognizing her as his daughter. However, hearing Mrs.

Lovett scream in horror in the basement when the dying Turpin grabs at her dress, Todd lets Johanna go. Todd discovers that the beggar woman was his wife Lucy, whom he believed to be dead, and that Mrs. Lovett deliberately misled him so she could have him to herself. Todd pretends to forgive her and dances with her before hurling her into the bakehouse oven, then cradles Lucy's dead body in his arms.

Toby appears, enraged at Mrs. Lovett's death, and Todd allows Toby to slit his own throat with his own razor. Toby leaves as Todd bleeds to death over his dead wife. Burton recalled his experience of seeing the show, saying, "I was still a student, I didn't know if I would be making movies or working in a restaurant, I had no idea what I would be doing.

I just wandered into the theatre and it just blew me away because I'd never really seen anything that had the mixture of all those elements. I actually went three nights in a row because I loved it so much. He described it as a silent film with music, and was "dazzled both by the music and its sense of the macabre. In Sondheim's words, "[Burton] went off and did other things. Meanwhile, director Sam Mendes had been working on a film version of the story for several years, and in June Sondheim was approached to write the script.

Although he turned down the offer, Mendes and producer Walter F. Parkes obtained his approval to use writer John Logan instead. I grew up watching a wide range of movies, regardless of the rating, and so I often forget that I can be somewhat desensitized. Some of the things listed are not in my memories of the movie, so I checked out the breakdown on VidAngel, and saw that the language, among other things, was somewhat misrepresented.

I will still continue to use this site for info, but may check it against other sites to verify what reviewers post. As far as the movie goes, I'm pretty conservative with my kids, and won't be letting my oldest watch this.

It's a general rule in our house that we don't watch rated R movies, but I may get the clean version for my wife, because I do remember really enjoying the music and story. I'm a big fan of Burton, Depp and Carter, and even musicals in general, so if that's your thing, this is a good, but bloody, bet Adult Written by Joanne 1 November 27, Sondheim and Depp Create Masterpiece for the Ages Sweeney Todd is an excellent film adapted from the musical of the same name.

It stars Johnny Depp in the title role as a man who escapes from prison and decides to exact revenge on the judge who tore his family apart with the help of Mrs. Lovett, his accomplice. Sweeney decides to practice for the judge by killing other people by slitting their throats when he shaves them, and Mrs. Lovett uses them to make meat pies for her shop. Eventually, they both get their dues. Really, whether or not you should let your child watch this should be based on maturity level, not age.

The blood is not frightening in any way, and the typical child should be able to handle it as long as you explain to them that it is not real and that killing people is bad. Watching this film will not make your child suddenly turn into a psycho-maniac killer. Likely, they will take away the message that violence and murder can only lead to destruction and severe consequences. This, however, is something that may fly over the heads of young children, and they may not understand this.

A young boy, probably not more than 10 years old, is depicted drinking gin to calm him down. This only happens a few times, however, and kids may not even realize that the boy is drinking alcohol. Ultimately, this film is a masterpiece with dark undertones that is a great film Adult Written by helsingmusique October 6, Sweeney Todd At 12 years of age, the maturity is available to a teenager to be able to decide whether they want to watch it or not. It is a very violent movie, but the blood is very fake in coloration likely due to the fact that they had to edit the colouring of the film after filming.

I enjoyed the film, found it easy to watch. Adult Written by FilmFanatic October 21, There is one sequence in which a bunch of people have their throats slit in a carefree manner by Depp's character. They are then tipped back in a rigged chair that dumps them down in the basement, sometimes with head spitting bloody results. One throat slitting is particularly gory, the vicim is slashed twice with a shaving razor and then stabbed in the neck a few times.

He is dumped down a trap door and is still alive when he hits the floor. A man is smashed in the face with a boiling kettle multiple times blood and teeth fly out , stuffed in a chest, and beings that he is still alive, has his throat slit with heavy blood spray.

A woman pushed into an oven and is burned alive as she screams. A boy slits a mans throat and his blood poor out onto the face of a dead woman, pools around them and fills the cobblestones with blood. Most of the dead bodies are chopped up, baked into meat pies and sold. Make no mistake, just because its a musical doesn't mean its child friendly.

The violence is heavy, bloody but unrealistic. Parent of a 2, 11, and year-old Written by mrs4d April 8, Edgar Allen Poe style fantasy I loved it. It is a theatrical type of violence and not scary at all plus the "hero" is the one committing the violence. Adult Written by dysfunctional-h January 8,
